For those who are active, the cities are offering options for them. Planning a healthy urban landscape is within the new trends.
For the most part, further urbanization is now not focusing on cars, it is more focused on people or, like Neil Angus, a Boston environmental planner says, it's a “people-oriented design.” Having urbanizations focus on that means that more spaces are created for people to go outdoors and escape buildings.
This is great news for those who plan on exercising in the concrete jungle. Trends also point to designers to find more ways to weave nature into the city. This must be done carefully as we do not want our cities lose their identity and haphazardly let nature to take over.
Cities are all built with recreational areas in mind. We have parks where citizens can go and relax and do their workouts. However, an increasing need for cardio and warm-up exercising has made the urban landscape a new trend. People can now use their bikes on special bike paths created throughout cities.
The very physical structure of cities themselves provides great spaces for exercise. The urban landscape can be used for working and jogging as well. You can still run on less populated streets in the city. Walking your pets in the city is also an option. Skating, roller-skating, skateboarding, etc., are all activities that are done with the buildings, cars, and chatter as a background. It is a trend that is growing, along with our cities.
